Joaquina
beach is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches
on this exquisite island. Regarded as one of the
top ten surfing spots in all of Brazil,
Joaquina is home to major international surfing championships.
Many of Brazil’s pro surfers have made Joaquina
their backyard because of its consistent swells and high
quality waves.
On
the best days, you will see photographers on the look
out for pictures that will be in major surfing magazines.
The waves break to both sides, but the left is usually
longer and more consistent. With the right wind, amazing
barrows will be plentiful along the 2 miles of this beach.
Once you check out the waves of Joaquina on a good day,
you’ll never forget this place.
On
the beachfront, you can participate in numerous activities:
beach soccer, beach volleyball, frescoball (racketball),
and jogging are some of the locals’ favorite.
There are also restaurants where you can enjoy a cold
beer and some tasty fresh shrimp.
Sandboarding
is the new sport (it was invented here in
Joaquina) that has become popular amongst
youngsters from every corner of the island. People
from 4 to 60 years of age use a wooden board that is similar
to a snowboard to speed down large dunes that are perfect
for this sport. The surrounding area contains many fabulous
hills that make a walk up the dunes even more worthwhile;
the landscape is truly beautiful, and from the top of
the highest dune you can see the entire stretch of beach.
Don’t forget to bring your camera, for you might
just catch one of the best sunsets of your life. As you
can see, whatever you’re up to, Joaquina has it
all.
